What is collective spirituality?

lifting our collective gaze— reimagining a new identity

Collective spirituality is a profound concept that shifts the focus from individual spiritual practice to a shared venture of cultural change from the INSIDEout. It calls for societies to undertake the sacred work of reimagining their identity, especially when deeply held beliefs no longer meet the changing needs of humanity or the Earth. Identity is the axis of behavioural change.

The spirit of our age
The spirit of our age is challenging us to seek the flourishing of all life on planet Earth— human, flora, and fauna. Yet, in Western societies, a backlash to this challenge is a cry to "make our culture great again" by doubling down on an identity founded on the divisive assumptions of isolation, domination, and a competitive survival of the fittest. This identity is no longer tenable. In contrast, collective spirituality responds to the spirit of our age by inviting us to lift our collective gaze beyond an identity of individualism toward one of interconnectedness, achieved through unity with diversity. By transforming our cultural identity, we can better address both local and global challenges.
